The largest producer worldwide of avocados is Mexico. Most of the avocados from Mexico go to the United States. Most avocados you find in Dutch supermarkets come from Peru, Chile and South Africa. But the Netherlands also imports avocados from Mexico, Spain, Kenya, Israel and Colombia.
The Netherlands is the second largest avocado importer in the world after the US. The vast majority of imports are not destined for the Dutch market, but are intended for export to other countries, mainly European countries.
The avocados in the supermarket in the Netherlands need to be mature but not yet ripe. To achieve this, careful thought has gone into pre-cooling, cold storage in warehouses, packaging and suitable transport of the avocados.
The avocados you order through an avocado gift package or through your own adoption tree are harvested by us, packaged and shipped directly to your address. You can't get them fresher ;)..
